It was her nightly routine for the past 5 years— revisiting a memory of their lives together. Tonight, it was this picture, taken on their honeymoon to Bali. She had clicked it at the entrance of a temple, partly because she was intrigued by the unbefitting Chinese inscriptions.
Her memory of the trip was sketchy. But she remembered their ‘temple-hopping’ excursion. A smile escaped her lips as she recalled her husband’s irritation after they visited their fifth temple. Her persistence won over his exasperation, and by the time their trip ended; they had seen enough shrines for a lifetime…
Thinking about her late husband, she softly whispered, “I am one more day closer to being with you.”
This story is written based on Friday Fictioneers’ photo prompt at the top, hosted by Madison Woods’ blog. Please feel free to critique my attempt at a 100 word story based on a given image. For more stories on this prompt go to: http://madison-woods.com/index-of-stories/092812-2/
Good use of the prompt to tell a lovely story. I hope she enjoys her time between now and meeting him again. 🙂 What a simple way to remember someone, using pictures of places you traveled together.
Sweet, romantic memories…”light the corners of her mind” brought on by this particular temple. A lovely way to end it, but I hope she has many more paths to travel before she meets him again.
Hi Heta,
Great, said piece of nostalgia. Is that what the inscription said? Reminder of how haunting the past can be. Ron
Lovely story…we have the almost the same theme this week.
Nice portrayal of someone living only for a future death when she hopes to rejoin her husband. Sad that she’s missing her life…that sadness permeates the piece.

Ow, lovely take on the prompt. Mine is here: http://readinpleasure.wordpress.com/2012/09/28/fridayfictioneers-my-dream/
Very memorable and moving 🙂
It’s amazing how much a simple image can bring back. Happily it was good memories and she can perhaps feel closer to her husband, even though he is gone
Yow. The tone really changed at the end. Didn’t see it coming. We done.
A lovely nostalgic piece.
Very sweet piece! Photographs always hold so many memories!
This is sweet and dear. Something to hold close to your heart. Nicely done!
i hope she doesn’t speed it up.
I liked that last line especially, but the entire piece had a nice feel to it!
that was a good read, I very much enjoyed it. It really fit the picture
How thoughtful. But I’m with Rich. I hope she doesn’t speed it up. Couldn’t tell if she was depressed or simply stating a fact. Great job.
I have been on the receiving end of the ‘too many temples’ tour. Still, it was a nice story with a poignant ending.
Aloha,
Doug
